What types of transfers are classified as taxable income?

Amounts of money transfers received from abroad by Ukrainian citizens, regardless of the transfer method (crediting to a current account, including a card account, in cash) are classified as income subject to personal income tax. Foreign income is the amount of an international money transfer received by any system (SWIFT, Western Union, MoneyGram, VISA, MasterCard, etc.).

Who is required to pay tax and how?

A private individual - recipient of a transfer is obliged to independently pay tax on the amount of the received money transfer. The Bank is not a tax agent when paying transfer amounts, that is, tax is not charged on the amount of the paid transfer, and the transfer is paid in full.

A private individual - recipient of a transfer is obliged to independently include the amount of foreign income (international money transfers received) in the total annual taxable income and submit a tax return based on the results of the reporting tax year, calculate and pay tax on such income to the budget.

What exchange rate should be used to convert the amount of an international money transfer received in foreign currency into UAH for the purpose of including it in the total taxable income?

A transfer is made at the NBU exchange rate on the date the transfer is received.

What is the income tax rate?

The Tax Code of Ukraine sets a tax rate of 18% on total annual taxable income. Additionally, a 5% military levy is deducted from such income.
