PrivatBank has been recognized as the “Best Bank in Ukraine” in the most prestigious category of the financial world — global Bank of the Year Awards 2025 by the British The Banker (The Financial Times Group). The winners were announced on 3 December 2025 at the annual The Banker awards ceremony in London.
The Banker’s experts highlighted PrivatBank for its “exceptional resilience, innovation, and social responsibility.” According to the jury, during wartime PrivatBank serves more than 18 million customers and 60% of Ukrainian businesses, continuing to operate as one of the country’s vital financial hubs. Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, the bank has delivered strong financial results that have made a significant contribution to the state’s financial stability.
PrivatBank CEO Mikael Borknert noted:
“This landmark recognition of PrivatBank as one of the world’s leading banks reaffirms the path we have chosen — to stand with Ukrainians during the war, safeguard their savings, support people and businesses, and help rebuild a strong and resilient economy.”
The Banker also emphasized that PrivatBank was one of the first financial institutions to resume lending at the start of the full-scale invasion, and since then its loan portfolio has tripled. The jury further underscored the bank’s contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s energy independence, food security, and export potential.
In addition to its financial achievements, in July 2025 the bank secured an important legal victory against its former owners in the London High Court, amounting to more than USD 3 billion.
The Bank of the Year award from The Banker Awards, one of the most respected distinctions in the global financial sector, annually recognizes banks based on their financial performance, strategic advantages, and impact on their communities. Participants are evaluated on their ability to turn challenges into opportunities in a rapidly changing business environment.
